my parents hard drive failed after 3 years. they were able to get there data.
3 other people i know had hard drives fail after 2 years and they had to get there's replaced.
my laptop has had the same HD since 2006 and never failed yet.
now i dont use it all the time either.
so i am curious. are newer laptops more prone to hard drive failing?
i should mention i am talking about micanacal hard drives not solid state.
It all depends on how well the drive is taken care of, a good drive could die in months, a bad one could last for years. Hard to really say if drives have gotten worse or not.
laptops are moved around more, i was thinkin that had some baring.
taken care of meaning defragged, etc?
If you are correct, and the drives are equal, in that they were built correctly, so we aren't talking failure due to bad drives, I'd say this is possible.
Not because of the drive, but because of the type of machine.
Laptops get dropped, over heated. Some people don't keep them clean, as to dirt and dust like they should be.
Some folks leave them in cars, expose them to outdise sun.
I'd say depending on the user, a laptop works harder, so sure, it will fail faster.
I carry mine all the time, but always in a clean bag.
I keep it dirt free, and such, so I'll tell you in another 2 years. I've had it one so far.
I don't allow it to get over hot buy making sure the table I put it on is clean and that is has good venting.
I always put it down gently, and carry my padded bag so I am not always bumping the machine.
as for my parents they do carry tin in a ag when they travel.
can't speak for the others, but know they wouldn't abuse things on purpis.
Not sure on this, my mac gets a clean once a month via a soft cloth and I am always reminding my wife to keep her mac clean from finger food prints. If its sitting on the floor I have her turn it lid side down so the vents are exposed so it can breeth.
Seems like putting a computer on the floor vents up would allow more dust to drop inside the case, not prevent it.
Seems vents down would be better, and in a case of some sort if on the floor.
Just a thought. I couldn't say.
